EM Bead Collars: A Natural Approach to Tick Prevention

Understanding Effective Microorganisms (EM)

EM, which stands for Effective Microorganisms®, is a technology developed by Japanese scientist Dr. Teruo Higa. It involves a combination of beneficial microorganisms, typically yeast, photosynthetic bacteria, and lactic acid bacteria. These microorganisms are known to promote a healthier environment which can be unfavourable for ticks.

EM in Tick Prevention: Ceramic Beads for Dogs

In the context of deterring ticks on dogs, EM is used in the form of ceramic beads that are incorporated into dog collars. These EM ceramic beads emit far infrared waves (FIR), which are the longest rays in the light spectrum and are highly compatible with human and animal tissue. FIR can penetrate the tissue, promoting improved blood circulation and creating an environment that ticks find inhospitable.

The theory is that the improved and balanced environment created by the EM ceramics makes the dog’s skin less attractive to ticks. It is thought that ticks dislike this changed environment, which helps prevent them from attaching to the dog.

Care and Considerations

A great deal of anecdotal evidence exists to support the effectiveness of EM beads in reducing and, in some cases, eliminating the number of ticks dogs experience. As they contain no chemicals, they are safe for dogs which suffer from allergies and sensitivities. EM bead tick repellent collars made from paracord are also easy to care for. They can be worn in water and will return to efficiency after simply drying in the sun.

It’s important to note that no method is 100% effective at preventing ticks in all dogs. Regular checks and avoiding known tick-infested areas are still recommended as part of a comprehensive tick prevention strategy.
